Question 1 (quita)
Identify concerns you may have with yourself- presentation in a resume, cover letter, or interview process. Explain these concerns and devise some ideas about how to address them. For example, you may be concerned that you have been out of the workforce for a while and how to present this. You may be concerned that you do not have direct experience for the job that you are seeking, or there may be an interview question that you anticipate, but don't know how to respond. If you have previous interview experience, share details about unexpected challenges or questions that arose, how you handled them at the time and if you would respond differently today given your current knowledge and/or experience. Question 2 (jay)
Much of the discussion around middle and late childhood development centers around school and education although there are others as well. What do you feel is the biggest challenge faced in middle to late childhood? Once you have identified a challenge, do some research to see what is being done to address this challenge?
Question 3
Everyone should answer the question in Part 1. Answer all the questions of Parts 1 and 2; for Part 3, you only have to pick out two questions.
Part 1: Enchantment
The following video by Mr. Guy Kawasaki (early Apple marketing executive) is based on his book "Enchantment." This is a very high-tech, business-focused brief, but the concepts apply to retail, military, government, or any other organization. This video gives the meat and potatoes of his book and provides relevant strategies for working with others. There are also some of the best tips I've ever seen regarding PowerPoint presentations and job interviews.

1. What was the highlight of the video to you? Can you take any lessons from this? How will it affect you working with others?
Part 2: The Elevator Pitch
Our second video this week is "The Elevator Pitch." Here is another one of my favorite speakers, Vanessa Van Edwards; she shares tips for perfecting your elevator pitch and some REALLY GREAT non-verbal tips.
Let's talk about the "elevator pitch." If you have never heard of it, imagine you are at a conference, event, or fundraiser, and the CEO of a company gets in the elevator with you and asks, "How are you doing? What's your business? Tell me a little about yourself." This is an opportunity to "sell" your business, idea, or yourself. If you have ever wanted to own your own business, developing these six steps will ensure that you are always ready to pitch yourself clearly and succinctly. The elevator pitch can also ensure a clear and concise job interview introduction.

Part 3:
Using the videos you viewed as a basis for responding to the questions, choose ONE of the five topics and answer the questions posed for the topic. Each topic and related question should be addressed in the discussion. If you are posting and a topic is not addressed, you should discuss that topic. Try to keep the coverage of topics evenly distributed, so that each topic has an equal number of threads. This means that a class with 25 students will have each topic discussed 5 times. A class with 30 students will be 6 times each.
Failing to do so may result in the students posting last having to revise and repost.
When posting, identify the topic # in the subject line so classmates can more easily determine what has already been discussed.
Topic 1: The Impact of Attitude
How does your attitude influence your interactions and relationships in the workplace?
- Reflect on a time when your attitude positively or negatively affected a professional situation.
- Discuss strategies for maintaining a positive attitude even during challenging times.

- Share an example of how one of these traits has impacted your work or personal life.
Topic 3: McGregor's Theory X and Theory Y
Compare and contrast McGregor's Theory X and Theory Y. How can understanding these theories help in managing and motivating employees?
- Which theory do you think is more effective in today's workplace, and why?
- Provide an example of a management style that aligns with either Theory X or Theory Y.
Topic 4: Positive Leadership
Explore the concept of positive leadership as discussed by Joyce E. A. Russell. How can positive leadership transform a team or organization?

- How can small changes in body language lead to significant improvements in self-perception and behavior?
Question 4
To begin this discussion, go to the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) website. Locate their Advocacy & Issues page and read through some of the current issues facing the hotel industry and what that AHLA proposes to address those issues.
The discussion should consider the current state of the industry and some of those issues as you address the following question:
Many hotel companies have a family of brands, each offering a different level of amenities and services. This is an attempt to reach more consumers and market segments, rather than limiting to only one particular market segment.
For the discussion this week, choose one particular family of hotels (there are many parent companies) and identify a specific brand within that hotel company. Examples of brands include Hampton Inn or Waldorf Astoria (Hilton family), The Ritz Carlton or Westin (Marriott Bonvoy), Quality Inn or EconoLodge (Choice Hotels), etc.
Based on what you are able to learn about that particular brand from their website and locations, identify their particular target market. This could include business/leisure travelers, upstairs versus downstairs, long term versus short term, etc. Explain why you came to that conclusion.
What particular amenities or brands do you look for when you are traveling? Does it change if it is for business, military, or leisure?
Finally, if you were to begin a career in the hotel industry, would you choose to begin in a full service hotel or a limited service hotel and why would that particular choice support your career goals better?
Question 5
Educators should keep in regular contact with parents about how their children are performing and progressing at school. In some families there are challenges that may affect the level of parent involvement.
1. What are three different strategies that you might use to open and/or maintain lines of communication with children's parents? Please describe them.
2. Identify two strategies which would be helpful to reduce barriers to parental involvement.
Question 6
APUS' student body is composed of roughly 85% active or reserve component military personnel. A number of military spouses are also enrolled as students. what are some special challenges that military members face as they navigate relationships and marriages? What effect do lengthy deployments have on romantic relationships? What about infidelity? If you are a civilian student without first-hand knowledge of this topic please research. ( I am a civilian student)
Question 7 (white)
I hope that you enjoyed the reading material from Jacob Morgan on future leaders. We only briefly touched on some of the book, however, I would encourage each of you to go further in exploring the Four Mindsets of the Notable Nine (Explorer, Chef, Servant, Global Citizen) and the Five Skills of the Notable Mind (Futurist, Yoda, Translator, Coach, Technology Teenager). Ask yourself where you are in any of these categories as a leader. Can you recognize if you have any of these mindsets or skills?
Please answer the following questions for our last discussion.
1. Who was your favorite CEO discussed in the Morgan textbook, and why?
2. If you were building a leader avatar, what would it look like, and what would be some of the strengths and weaknesses that you would list for yourself? Have fun with this one, if you would like to "build" one and make a graphic and insert it for us to view, that could be quite interesting.
3. Lastly, what I would like is some student feedback. Please pass me two items/areas that you enjoyed from this course and one item/area/subject that you didn't enjoy quite as much, wanted more explanation on, or that wasn't clear. Anything that you provide will be used to improve this course for those that follow you.
