What impact trauma has on childrens overall development

Problem:

Reply to this using a different recent peer review article from the last three years and biblical perspective.  As Hughes et al. (2019) explain in Chapter Nine of their textbook, Healing Relational Trauma with Attachment-Focused Interventions, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy can be effective with children as young as two years of age. This model can benefit several populations. The population I chose to focus on is children with neurodevelopment fragility. I chose this population because I have personal experience with it. I have family members with neurodivergence and have been working with clients who have neurodivergence. Some important things to note for this population are that those who have experienced developmental trauma are more susceptible to neurodevelopment fragility (Hughes et al., 2019). In fact, their increased risk of neurodevelopment fragility makes a lot of sense when recognizing the extensive impact trauma has on children's overall development (Hughes et al., 2019).

The first step this resource suggests is providing an intentional assessment of the child's neurodevelopment, as well as addressing attachment concerns (Hughes et al., 2019). Additionally, the writers share that a large question in play for children in this population is whether behavioral difficulties are due to an autism diagnosis, attachment concerns, or fetal alcohol syndrome. However, they state that answering this question can be difficult due to the "transactional relationship between the development of the difficulties, such that emotional development, including attachment, and neurodevelopment each affect the other" (Hughes et al., 2019, p. 191). When reading similar resources, these statements seem to hold true. In fact, Zlomke et al. (2019) write a similar notion to the Hughes et al. text, stating, "Children with communication and social deficits, such as autism spectrum disorder, are at increased risk for developing problematic disruptive behaviors" (p. 502). Another important point that Zlomke et al. (2019) share in their work is that individuals with neurodevelopment fragility often struggle with behavioral criticism over time.

This knowledge integrates well with the work of Hughes et al. (2019). In fact, this text's thorough research on the effects actually points to reasons why the DDP model can be helpful with this population. In relation to the negative effects of criticism on children with ASD, the DDP model's emphasis on the PACE cultivated attitude is a direct solution for this concern (Hughes et al., 2019). It emphasizes the need to be playful, accepting, curious, and empathetic instead of critical (Hughes et al., 2019). Additionally, the house model emphasizes a secure base before addressing behavioral outcomes, which I believe correlates well with this population's needs. I think it is important to note that although someone is in a specific demographic, it does not mean our awareness of their population will fully address their concerns. I think maintaining a curious attitude in sessions with families who have cultural or personal differences needs to remain a priority for effective care. Need Assignment Help?
