You are a high school counselor. A 17-year old student, Latino student named Robert, is referred to you by one of his teachers. He is struggling academically and socially and admits to feeling depressed most of the time. His grades have suffered, and he has become more socially withdrawn. As a coping mechanism, he writes and plays music in his room. Following the meeting, Robert's mother calls you wanting an update on his progress.
Task
1) In your opinion, what is/are the presenting problem(s)?

3) What stop and start behaviors can you identify?
4) What goals (or outcomes) might you have for this client? Be specific. How might they reach those goals? What could be some potential obstacles to reaching those goals? How can he/she overcome those obstacles? (Hint: it might be helpful to start Part II: SMART Goals Download SMART Goalsand then incorporate that into your essay)
5) Which of the conditions of facilitating helpee growth are currently present (if any)? Which conditions of facilitating helpee growth might need to be developed in this helping relationship? How might you develop those facilitative conditions?
