What do you think of general william c. westmoreland

Problem 1: If the liberal elite had learned the lessons of appeasement from World War II (and therefore believed that Communist aggression must be stopped in Vietnam), why did they not learn the lessons of aerial bombing from World War II and apply them to Vietnam (if Germany and Britain, modern industrial powers, could not be brought to their knees by massive aerial bombing, how could that same bombing defeat a rural peasant society with little modern infrastructure)?

Problem 2: Whose strategy do you think would have been more effective for the war in Vietnam, Taylor's strategy of restricting them to defending U.S. bases and other installations, or Westmoreland's strategy of sending them out to patrol the countryside (the best defense is a good offense)?

Problem 3: What do you think of General William C. Westmoreland's strategies listed on pg. 450? Were these good strategies, or were they doomed to fail?

Problem 4: What do you think would have been the most difficult thing(s) for American soldiers to face in Vietnam?
