A Possible Paper Layout

Seriously consider the following format for your paper, subject to the particular requirements of your subject:

Introduction:

Background information (briefly, please).

What issues are being addressed? Be specific. Consider listing the issues.

Why are the issues important?

How do the issues relate to MGT 520 content?

Summary conclusion (abbreviated) - What did you do and what did you discover? Always provide the reader with the "punch line" upfront.

In this way the reader can follow your analysis within the context of your stated conclusion. This is not like a murder mystery where the reader doesn't know the outcome until the last couple of pages. A half page or so long is appropriate.

Project analysis - The bulk of the paper. For example:

Detailed description of the project process, i.e., what did you do and why

Detail of "data" sought and obtained: Why did you pick this particular data? Why not other data? Why this amount of data?

Analysis and Interpretation of the data, i.e., what did all your work tell you about your stated issues. Make certain you refer back to MGT 520 content throughout your paper

The "Deliverable" - What are your recommendations for change based on your data collection and analysis?

Conclusion - In somewhat greater detail, summarize your project process, findings, and how it addressed the stated issues.

Ethics/social responsibility section (remember, at least one page)

Managerial abilities - Which abilities did you target and how the work you did in this SMAC demonstrates that you developed those abilities. (Please do not repeat the abilities definitions from the Student Handbook.) For each managerial ability be brief with your justification.

Reference section - With the exception of interviews, every citation in the body of your paper must have an entry in the References section. Conversely, for every entry in your References section there  must be a corresponding citation in the body of your paper. In APA format! (See Plagiarism and APA Formatting in the Syllabus and Other Course Information folder in Canvas) When in doubt, cite!
