The change in infant feeding practices in the United States and across the world has generated much debate. The primary topics under debate are breast versus bottle feeding and when and what to feed an infant. For this week's Discussion, you will take on these topics for the purpose of discovering the best practices to provide a growing infant the best nutrition possible.

Topic 1: Infant Feeding Practices

Discuss the following in your initial post:

Your friend is expecting her first child. In your first post, share with your friend the nutritional pros and cons of breastfeeding in order to help her make an educated decision about whether to breast or bottle feed. You may also share your personal experiences, but be sure to discuss the nutritional implications of each option. Make sure to support this information with resources such as the textbook and/or other reliable sources.

In addition, discuss when first and complementary foods should be added into an infant's diet and why. You may include personal experiences and advice that has been passed on to you. Then, support your answers with information from the textbook and/or other resources.

The response should be 150 words and include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations

Unit 8 Assignment: Diet Analysis

Part 1

Analyze the reports created in Step 1 and record your answers to the following questions in complete sentences.

1. What did the nutrition analysis teach you about your diet in general?

2. Based on your 5-day combined report, which nutrients did you consume in amounts less than 75% of the DRI on average?

3. Based on your 5-day combined report, which nutrients did you consume in amounts greater than 125% of the DRI on average?

4. Select five nutrients that were low in your diet and five nutrients that were high in your diet (based on 2 and 3 above). Explain how each of the nutrients that you selected as too high or too low functions in your body and affects your health and risk factors for diseases. If you do not have five low and/or five high nutrients in your diet, you may randomly select nutrients to discuss for a total of 10 nutrients.

5. Name three foods that you could add to your diet that you would enjoy that would help you consume more of the nutrients you were too low in. Make sure to identify which nutrient(s) each food contains that you added. For example, if you add carrots to your diet because you need more vitamin A, then explain that.

6. Name three foods that you could easily eliminate or reduce in your diet that would help to reduce your intake of the nutrients that you were too high in. Make sure to identify which nutrient(s) each food contains that you eliminated. For example, if you removed canned soup from your diet because it is high in sodium, then explain that.

Part 2

Write a response that is a minimum of 100 words and support/validate your opinions with outside references that tie the concepts in your reading to your diet intake.

7. What changes did you observe from your original food journal to the made up food journal?
