For this discussion, you'll make a trip to a toy store or to the toy aisle of a major retailer. Alternatively, you could look up the toy sections on a major retailer's website to avoid making a trip to a potentially crowded store!
Look at the toys you find on the different aisles. Do you see a delineation between toys for boys and toys for girls? What colors are associated with each? What actions? What can this tell us about gendered expectations for boys and girls as children and, potentially, for men and women as adults? Do you think any of the toys you played with as a child influenced your ideas about gender roles, your hobbies, or your ideas about your future career?
