What audience it was made for and when it was made

Assignment: History At the Movies

Instructions:

For this assignment you will be required to watch a film dealing with some aspect of the historical topics we have discussed in class and critically analyze it in a 6-7-page, double-spaced paper, including bibliography or works cited page. Your paper must utilize outside resources such as the internet (not Wikipedia), books, and magazine or journal articles pertaining to its subject matter. You should utilize between 3-5 sources for this assignment (not including the film itself). Your purpose in this assignment is to discover, through your own research, whether the film you have chosen gives an accurate picture of the people and times it depicts. In answering this question you should look at various aspects of the film including who made it and why, what audience it was made for, and when it was made, all of which can give you clues about the historical veracity of the film.

In answering this question you should provide examples of why the film is, or is not a good tool for learning about the historical events or period in question. While I expect you to look for inaccuracies, don't get bogged down on petty details. The color of a soldier's buttons in The Patriot doesn't matter to me; whether it gives an accurate depiction of the Revolutionary War in South Carolina does.

The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
