Assignment: Developing Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills

Skill Practice Reflection: Reflect on a time you had a disagreement with a person you care about this week and used the skills we learned (DEAR MAN, GIVE, FAST) to connect with that person. Include a response to the following prompts for a total of about 1 pages double spaced.

1. Share a time in the past week that you had a disagreement with a person you care about and used at least one of the interpersonal effectiveness skills. Which skill or skills did you use? What was your primary and secondary priority in the situation and were you effective in obtaining your priorities? What successes and challenges did you have in using the skill(s)?

2. Complete a WOOP for a goal you have based on the following four prompts. Remember to include all four parts of the WOOP, putting particular focus on naming an internal obstacle and an if/then statement for your plan.

3. WISH: What is a something you wish to change in your future in terms using interpersonal effectiveness skills? This change can be longer term, but make sure to then also identify something for within the next 4 weeks.

4. OUTCOME: What would a specific outcome be if you were to live out the above wish?

5. OBSTACLE: What is an obstacle that has will keep you from using interpersonal effectiveness skills? Name at least one internal barrier and one external barrier.

6. PLAN: What are your plans for overcoming these obstacles and barriers to using interpersonal effectiveness skills? Make sure to include an if/then statement (i.e. If you face "obstacle x", then you will do ...) and then expand on how you will ensure you stick with that plan. Include specific steps!

o Pick another scenario in which you could use DEAR MAN, GIVE, and FAST. Write a half page reflection on how you would approach using the skills for this for your scenario. Include a brief description of the scenario and talk through the DEAR MAN, GIVE, and FAST. Be specific on what you would say (even use quotes!).

Gratitude Practice: Write a half a page about something that happened or something you accomplished that you are grateful for.

Lecture + Reading Reflection: Reflect on the previous lecture and the assigned readings for next week and the associated videos. Respond to the following prompts in a half page.

1. What is one thing that resonated with you class on Wednesday, particularly from the lecture material? What do you still have questions about (if anything)?

2. Identify one way you can see the content in the readings helping you going forward.

1. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
