• Contextual background and initial research: Your creative writing project needs to be contextualised in terms of an enquiry into a particular topic. Briefly describe the background for your research topic (for example, research on the travel writing genre) and then outline the specific kind of creative writing that you would like to do. • Objectives: What are your outcomes for this project? What topic are you specifically planning to write about? What form or genre are you planning to use? Follow up with smaller, more specific objectives, including what you intend to produce (your project outputs, for example are you planning to write one 4500 word travel essay at the end of semester, or are you planning to write a series of short features?). Be as clear as you can in this section, as it is the key to understanding the important aspects of your project. • Method: State how you will go about acquiring the data for your project, which is also called your method. In a creative writing project, one of the methods will always be close reading and analysis of other texts that inspire your own writing. What are you doing in this project? How are you conducting your research? If you are conducting a travel-writing project, describe the methods by which you might accumulate your data for the creative writing project. In this section you might also include the resources you need in order to undertake your research, for example, a smartphone (type?) and recording technologies so that you can interview locals or take photographs as memory aids. Issues obtaining any resources should be raised in discussion with your supervisor.
• References: Your proposal must include a bibliography, and it can draw upon scholarly academic research on your topic areas, but as this is a creative writing unit it can consist of examples of good writing that you are learning from as you develop your cite project. Cite supporting literature appropriately, including page numbers when relevant. All pre-existing research that is cited in the proposal needs to be properly referenced. Latest APA referencing only.
