What are your large rocks

Assignment task: Read the story and answer the four questions below:

A science teacher picked up a large empty jar about two inches in diameter and filled it with rocks.  The teacher asked the students, "Is the jar full?"  Everyone in the class agreed that the jar was full.

Then the teacher poured some small pebbles into the jar.  He shook the jar lightly and the pebbles rolled into the open areas between the rocks.  The teacher then asked the students again,  "Is the jar full?" The class laughed and agreed that now the jar was full.

Next, the teacher poured sand into the jar.  The sand filled in the remaining open areas of the jar.  "Now," asked the teacher, "Is the jar full?"  The students did not answer right away but finally agreed that now the jar was full.

With that, the teacher brought out a pitcher of water and poured it into the jar until it was filled to the brim.  The teacher exclaimed, "the jar is filled!"  The teacher then explained to his students.

We have important things to take care of called priorities.  These are represented by the large rocks.

We also have things which we enjoy doing, and these are represented by the pebbles.

We have other things we have to do, which is represented as the sand. Finally, we have things that simply clutter up our lives and get in our way, represented by the water.

If you fill your jar with water until it is completely full, you will not be able to add any pebbles, sand or big rocks.  However,  if your large priorities are tackled, scheduled, and completed, you can then do the smaller but less important things.

1.) What are your large rocks (your priorities)?

2.) What are your pebbles (things that you enjoy doing)?

3.) What are the things that you have to do (your sand)?

4.) What are your time wasters (your water)?
