What are the downsides to social media in your paper focus

Project "Generation Like"

For given Project, we will once again look at social media. For Project, we read Clive Thompson's "Public Thinking" which argues that social media has made today's students better thinkers and writers. Now we are going to watch the PBS Frontline documentary, "Generation Like" by Douglas Rushkoff. His view of social media is not so positive. In fact, he looks at the downside of social media, in particular, and how major corporations exploit teens' need to be "liked" in order to make profit.

What are the downsides to social media? In your paper, you will focus on and explore one of the problems of social media. You will use "Generation Like" and your main text, and may supplement ideas with 2-3 other outside sources.

A Successful Paper Will Do the Following:
1. Have a defined, narrow focus that creates a strong context for the paper.

2. Include outside sources that are well researched and evaluated.

3. Synthesize outside sources into a cohesive manner.

4. Follow the key rhetorical moves described below.

5. Use outside sources in the text using signal phrases, MLA in-text citation and Works Cited Page.

For this paper, as a writer you will mimic the major rhetorical moves Thompson makes in his first seventeen paragraphs:

2. Ask the question "Why is this a problem?" (Your question will be more specific)

3. Answer your question and explain your position by doing the following (2-4 paragraphs)

b. Back it up with some important statistics

c. Bring in expert testimony
