Problem
Walk through the file hashing process. It should only take approximately 30 minutes to compete this actual process.
Go to the Internet and search for a web-based hashing website. You should not have to download any software onto your computer.
A. Compose a document in Microsoft Word with just a couple of text lines. Save the document.
B. Run the hashing program and get a hash value on your document. Document the hash value of your file.
C. Go back to Microsoft Word and re-open your document. Make one slight change to your document and re-save using the same name.
D. Run the hashing program and get a hash value on the modified document. Note this hash value change.
E. Compose a paper, explaining what a hash value is and why it is important in computer forensics. Include detailed documentation of the file hashing process you just completed including what file hashing web site you used, what hashing algorithm you used and why, documentation of your original and changed hash values and why they changed.
