CLASSMATE'S POST

The worst classroom-based learning experience was on the job. We supposed to have training on the new scheduling system for the clinic. Our new second line supervisor was appointed to give the training.

She did not have the lecture, or the power points slides together. It seems she was unprepared and basically laughed it off each time she made an error. She did not speak clearly and loudly enough for us to hear her.

The speaker should gain our attention and keep the attention of the employees' in any lecture situation. You could see the frustration on everyone face in the room.

We left the training knowing less than we did before we sat down. The factor in this situation was that the supervisor clearly was unfamiliar with the new system and she did not prepare for the lectures in which she was given enough preparation time before delivering the training.

The best classroom-based learning experience was when some of the employees' applied CPR training in real life situation at our quarterly safety meeting.

None of the clinics knew what the instructors had planned and when one of the employees' fail to the floor, people jump into action. The participants were engaged in their role which was very effective in our training.

The idea was to enable the employees to experience what it may be like to see a real-life emergency from many different perspectives. After we figured out that it was not a real emergency, we were asked questions about the scenario and given the opportunity to also ask questions.
