Assignment task:
If we were to view endangered species through anthropocentrism there would be no chance for survival for species with no instrumental value to humans. Anthropocentrism argues that nonhuman being lack the capacity to participate in collective decision making therefore only human interests should influence the final outcome. While doing a google search for endangered species I found this article titled "Five worthless species in need of saving". One of the species on the list is the Tonkin Snub-Nose monkey native to Vietnam so I did research on this monkey. This species current population is 200. Approximately 80% of the species remain at the Specie and Habitat Conservation Area at Khau Ca. The Fauna & Flora international conservation organization has worked with the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation and the Vietnamese authorities for over two decades to protect this species (The Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation, 2025). If it wasn't for conservation organizations like the Fauna & Flora, species like these would not stand a chance at survival. This is why environmental ethics exist, because of the common belief that humans are superior to other species and the environment. As mentioned in the textbook "it is common to use proxies to represent the interests of others when they cannot for themselves" for example parents representing the interest of infants (Sandler, 2017). It is our moral responsibility to care for nonhuman and the environment regardless of their value to us.
Analyze how the viewpoints outlined above could vary based on an individual's role within community. Support your arguments with scholarly resources, which may include your textbook. Sandler, R. (2017). Environmental Ethics: Theory in Practice. Need Assignment Help?
