Using the outline you created for your essay in activity

Culminating multimedia assignment Overview

This is really the point at which you draw together everything that you've been working on throughout the course. Don't think of this as an onerous task as much as it is an opportunity for you to showcase all of the talents and ideas you've been developing here. You will present the fruits of your research and your own ideas about the literature you have been reading, both the primary texts and the secondary sources you've been studying. All of this will come together in your literary essay.

An equally important aspect of this activity, however, is the multimedia form in which you choose to present this textual content. While students often use presentation software such as Power Point, you are not limited to this. You may choose to present your content in any one or combination of the following multimedia forms:

  • web page
  • web quest
  • blog
  • photo montage
  • video
  • slide show using Power Point or similar presentation software
  • pod cast
  • animation
  • interactive game
  • any other multimedia form that lends itself to presentation in an online course provided you have your instructor's approval

In order to enhance your presentation, you may use music, sound, design elements (colour, line, layout, movement) and other devices to involve your audience. Remember, it is the combination of textual content - your message - and form that needs to be addressed equally in your presentation

A successful multimedia presentation will:

  • encourage audience interest
  • attract the audience's attention by using design elements such as colour, font, layout, and images
  • use music and other sound devices to emphasize key points
  • present textual content in a clear, well-organized, concise and precise manner
  • avoid overly cluttered or confusing design which obscures textual content
  • give citations for any music, images or ideas taken from a copyrighted source
  • function smoothly without any irritating "glitches" that distract the audience from the textual content

Using the outline you created for your essay in activity two, you will create a presentation of your textual content in a multimedia format. You may choose one or any combination of multimedia forms for this presentation. Remember that you are responsible for all design, image and sound elements; remember also to cite any copyrighted sources on the final slide/page of your presentation.  Your multimedia presentation must include both visual elements and evidence of strong oral communication skills.

Your multimedia essay may take the form of any of the suggestions below:

  • podcast
  • video monologue
  • photo montage/slideshow set to music with commentary
  • infomercial
  • animation
  • stop motion video
  • any other form or combination of forms approved by your instructor

Remember to cite any and all copyrighted sources of materials used in your presentation.
