Allocate 2 hours to complete this part of the Clinical Field Experience.

Interview a school specialist (occupational therapist, physical therapist, or speech pathologist) about diagnostic assessments and his or her role in the process of evaluating individuals with exceptionalities.  Your interview should address the following prompts:

1. The criteria and distinguishing factors of nonbiased formal and informal specialized diagnostic assessments;

2. Examples of and how nonbiased formal specialized diagnostic assessments are administered to individuals with exceptionalities, including any legal and ethical requirements;

3. How the school specialist interprets information from a nonbiased formal specialized diagnostic assessment;

4. How the school specialist interprets information from a nonbiased informal specialized diagnostic assessment;

5. How the assessment information is used in making eligibility, program and placement decisions for individuals with exceptionalities;

6. How the students need met if the assessment information does not result in a finding of a disability; and

7. Strategies in communicating specialized assessment results to various stakeholders.

In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect upon your interview.

Assignment 3: Benchmark - Analyzing Cognitive and Educational Evaluation

Part One -

1. Read the "Analyzing Cognitive and Educational Evaluation Report" provided for student Adam Gallery. Based on the report, create a table with a row for each assessment. Clearly identify each assessment. In the first column, provide a summary of the results that will help guide appropriate educational decisions. (Do not simply cut and paste the findings.) In the next column, describe how each assessment is technically sound and minimizes rater bias. In the last column, explain why the selected assessment tool is appropriate for this student.

2. In a 500-750-word analysis, advocate for the appropriate educational decisions for this student based on the assessment results, including recommendations on accommodations, modifications, and placement.

Part Two -

Using the "Analyzing Cognitive and Educational Evaluation Report," compose a 250-500-word script for seeking consent for special education services from Adam's parents. Your script should include a hypothetical conversation with the parents where results of the MET report appropriately relayed.

Assignment 4: Technology Based Assessments Newsletter

Create a two-page newsletter highlighting three current technology based assessments that help determine eligibility for special education services. Within your newsletter, complete the following:

1. Identify and describe three current technology based assessments.

2. Outline potential benefits and drawbacks of each presented assessment.

3. Based on your evaluation of the benefits and drawbacks, select the assessment you believe to be most beneficial. In 100-250-words, describe that assessment in your newsletter and provide a thorough rationale explaining your position.

Use a minimum of three scholarly sources on emerging technology based assessments and students with exceptionalities to support your findings. Be sure to use in-text citations within your newsletter.
