• Activity Plan #2

Realistic fiction has great value to children of all ages because these books allow children to identify with the characters. Although they may be controversial, carefully selected books may be quite appropriate.

• Select one book from the realistic or historical fiction genre and write an activity plan appropriate for a first or second grader. Be sure to complete and include your graphic organizer from the Unit 6 Discussion.

o Use our standard activity plan format and complete all sections.
o Include one activity that will connect the activity's objective(s) to a home-based experience and promote partnerships with families.
o Demonstrate reflection on the NAEYC developmentally appropriate practice guidelines that are applicable to your activity.

Hint: Visit your local library, select and read a book from these genres. You cannot develop an activity plan unless you have read the book carefully.

Ive Already completed the discussion question below but I wanted to add this to the instructions because I chose brainstorming the web

• Visit this site and review a variety of graphic organizers: https://www.graphic.org/goindex.html

• Choose a graphic organizer from this website (or another you know) that will support the activity you developed AND the book that you have selected.

• Share the book and organizer you have chosen and explain "Why you think mapping out story elements for children can be a good tool to use?"

• Also explain why this particular organizer was helpful for this book.

Before the forum closes, post the completed organizer and be sure to include it in your activity plan.

This was her discussion post for unit 6:

Professor Russell and Class,

I would have to say the graphic organizer I would use would be the brainstorming web. However, I would put the main part as "gifts" and then I want the children to branch out from there of what gifts have been given to them by friends, family, and people surrounding us. The gifts can be big or small. The use of this graphic organizer is to gather a large amount of information in a more organized fashion. I want them to use this organizer to have an organized way of knowing what gifts they got a who they are from.

I am doing my activity plan on the book "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein. My main focus here is I want to teach the children to be grateful for what they have recovered from others. In this book there are many different things that are taught to children but I want the main focus to be that there are always people around us who care, and are willing to help us and for that we should be thankful for everything they give to us.

Sincerely,

Liliana.
