Learning Theory/ Training Objectives Assignment

This assignment has two different parts. Be sure to do both parts.

Part 1: Set Training Objectives

Using the information which you developed for the Training Analysis Assignment, create 4 (Four) training objectives for your training program utilizing the information from Chapter 5. Remember that you must not only think about what you want your trainees to learn, but also how those trainees will demonstrate they have learned the information and understand it. There are 4 types of training objectives (see page 152, Table 5 - 5). You must use ALL of the 4 training objective types in your training objectives (Trainee Reaction Objectives; Learning Objectives; Transfer of Training Objectives; Organizational Outcome Objectives). If you develop a training program for individuals who are taking your training for self improvement, you will need to discuss the Organizational Outcome Objectives based on how the training will improve this trainee's future performance at an organization/ company. If your program is already directed to employees of a company, then you should be able to set the Organizational Outcome Objective based on that. A good training objective has three components:

Desired Outcome: What should be expected to occur?

Conditions: Under what conditions is the outcome expected to occur?

Standards: What criteria signify that the outcome is acceptable?

Here is an example that a student doing the topic of "Developing Meeting Agendas" might write:

Desired Outcome: Create an agenda for an effective meeting.

Conditions: Using a modern word processor and computer, trainees will create the agenda by the deadline of one week before the meeting.

Standards: The agenda created will be in the correct format, including all topics to be discussed, with the date of the meeting, with a beginning and ending time for the meeting as well as the location, purpose and overview of the meeting. Agendas will be submitted on time (a week before the meeting).

Part 2: Social Learning Theory/ Gagne Briggs 10 -Step Model (Table 5 - 11; Pg. 179)

Create a chart like the one in Table 5 -11 for your training program. Review the material about Social Learning Theory from Chapter 3. Review Gagne's Steps. Once you have reviewed the text material, create a Gagne-Briggs Chart (10 step) for your training program. Be sure to do this part because it will be the foundation for the next assignment.
