Purpose: To develop an understanding of persuasion strategies and styles.
For this assignment, you will write-up the activity described in the Larson textbook (chapter 6) titled Role-play the persuader.
In Role-play the persuader, you would imagine that you need to persuade a group of people to do or believe something. Because this activity will take some knowledge of your audience and what is important to them, you may select something that has come up in your job, everyday life or something that you may know a lot about.
Briefly describe who your audience is and what you are trying to persuade them to do or believe. Then, explain the following: What arguments might you use and why? What arguments might you avoid and why? In other words, what should you intensify and what should you downplay given your audience. What themes, language, and style (as described in this chapter) would most benefit your goal?
Written assignments are to be a minimum of 500 words and contain at least one legitimate resource. The purpose of this assignment is to apply the concepts and terms learned from the course material. Thus, this assignment needs to include a legitimate reference outside the assigned text. This reference can be an empirical article, a trusted news source... etc. Wikipedia and "John Smith's" blog are not considered legitimate sources.
