The most important role of the project manager is planning

The most important role of the project manager is planning, controlling, directing and organizing a project undertaken by the organization. The project manager is the overall overseer of the project and ensures that it is implemented as planned. The role of a project manager will not change over time because the success of any project depends on how well it is planned, controlled and executed. The project managers role therefore remains to be paramount in any organization undertaking a project.

The project manager is responsible for selecting a project for organizations. First, the project manager identifies possible projects that can be undertaken. Then, the projects are evaluated. This is where the projects are evaluated based on the returns that will generate. The project manager can use the Net Present value, payback period or benefit cost ratio to determine projects that will have higher returns. Finally, the project manager selects those projects that have greater benefits.
