From an interdisciplinary perspective, investigate some of the issues surrounding the topic of human trafficking. For this paper, you should learn what the research from your areas of study has developed about this topic. Use both the perspective that your concentration has about human trafficking as well as how research from your concentration could influence the future of human trafficking.

Literature Search

In this course, you will be conducting an interdisciplinary literature review. The final paper will be turned in at the end of the course.

This assignment is designed to help you further plan and prepare for your final paper. This literature search is the first step in finding the appropriate articles for your Annotated Bibliography, which is the foundation for the literature review in your final paper. For your final paper, you may, or may not, use all of the sources you find in this literature search. You may discover that these articles are not the best for your final project. This is a place to start gathering your literature.

The first paragraph of this paper needs to be an introductory paragraph that introduces how you are going to address the research topic that has been provided to you (see Course Introduction module). In this paragraph, identify the disciplines you are using to address the topic and write a research question from the perspective of those disciplines. Using your discussion posts from Lessons 1 & 2 will help you write this first draft of your introduction. Be sure to incorporate the feedback you received on the discussion board.

After the introductory paragraph, you should begin the literature list. For this assignment, turn in 4 entries of articles you have found during your library research. These sources must be scholarly research articles from peer reviewed journals of the disciplines you have chosen. The articles should relate to the topic as you have refined it to this point. Each article must have been published within the last 10 years. Each entry should have the following elements and be written in this format:

1. A correct APA reference listing. (Consult the APA resources in the Course Introduction module)
2. The disciplinary affiliation of the author and the journal
3. The method used in the study [i.e. quantitative or qualitative]
4. Cut and paste the abstract from the article.

Use the following criteria for your assignment submission:

• Follow assignment instructions
• Use the heading for your paper provided in the Syllabus
• 3-5 pages long
• Clearly written, well-organized, and grammatically correct.
• Meet APA guidelines as discussed in the Start Here Assignment

o 12 point Times New Roman font
o 1" margins
o Double spaced

Annotated Bibliography

In this course, you will be conducting an interdisciplinary literature review. The final paper will be turned in at the end of the course.

This assignment is designed to help you further plan and prepare for your literature review. The Annotated Bibliography is the foundation for the literature review. Newell (2007) discusses this process in his article. For your final paper, you may, or may not, use all of the sources you find for this Annotated Bibliography. You will need more than these four sources, and you may decide these four are less useful as your project develops. This is a place to start gathering and examining your literature.

The first paragraph of this paper needs to be an introductory paragraph that introduces how you are going to address the research question that has been provided to you. In this paragraph, you will, identify the disciplines you are using to answer the question, and restate the research question from the perspective of those disciplines. This introductory paragraph is the second draft of the introductory paragraph for your final paper.

After the introductory paragraph, begin the Annotated Bibliography for your research project. For this assignment, turn in 4 entries (2 from each discipline). These sources must be scholarly research articles from the peer reviewed journals of the disciplines you have chosen. Each article must have been published within the last 10 years. Each annotation should have the following elements, in this bulleted format:

1. A correct APA reference listing. (Consult the resources provided in the Start Here Assignment)
2. The disciplinary affiliation of both the author and the journal
3. The phenomena, related to the research problem, which are addressed in the article
4. The theory used in the study, if stated
5. The research method used in the study (i.e. quantitative, qualitative, correlational, experimental, etc.)
6. A summary of the article. The summary must be at least 2 paragraphs long (minimum 5 sentences per paragraph). These paragraphs should be written in your own words and summarize the article you have chosen as a source document. Do not use any quotes in this summary.

Literature Review

An interdisciplinary literature review should be an original examination and analysis of the scholarly literature on a particular topic, from more than one disciplinary point of view. Be sure to review the resources in the course related to the literature review and the rubric for this assignment.

You should begin this paper with an abstract. The abstract is a brief summary of your paper - usually under 250 words. The abstract stands alone on a page. It tells the reader what your paper is about and what you found. The OWL site gives you more information about how to write an abstract. The abstract is NOT your introductory paragraph. Elements you should include in your abstract include a statement of the problem you are investigating; the criteria you used for the literature you chose; types of research used in those studies; your method of analysis; and your conclusions.

After the Abstract you need a page break.

The next page begins with your introductory paragraph. There is no heading used for the introduction. The introductory paragraph(s) discusses the purpose of the paper and a summary of where you are going with the paper. You will identify the two disciplines you are using here. You should write this paragraph last. The CUNY article you have already read gives a great description of this and is a valuable resource.

The actual literature review should include the information about the disciplinary perspective of each source. Start with a brief [1-2 sentences] discussion of why you are looking at the literature in this discipline for information to answer your research question. The next few paragraphs should have your literature review for this discipline. These paragraphs should come from your Annotated Bibliography. Assuming that you did that paper correctly this should be pretty straight forward. Be sure to incorporate any feedback you were given to improve each segment. Of course, you will not just copy and paste your annotation - that is just the foundation for your writing. The CUNY article will help you understand how to develop this. Review the article you have been provided and it will help you turn your annotated bib into a literature review. Be sure to incorporate the feedback you received on your Annotated Bib and talk about the phenomena that will influence your study and why you think they matter. Sub-headings for each discipline will help give your paper more structure. Under no circumstances should you leave your APA reference listing in the section!

This will probably be at least a paragraph for each source. If you are having issues turning your Annotated Bib into a Literature Review rewatch the videos provided in Lesson 6.

Remember, your literature review should be written in APA format and should include several elements including:

• an Abstract,
• an introductory paragraph,
• literature identified from at least two different disciplinary perspectives, with a synthesis, and
• a conclusion.
• Utilize a minimum of 10 sources, at least 8 of which must be peer reviewed scholarly research articles
• Clearly written, well-organized, and grammatically correct.
