The consistency of the product or service of an organization is ensured by Quality management. The quality management of USPS (mainly known as United States Postal Service) was based on four principles, which are courteous relationship with its customer, reliability, quick response and controlled rates. USPS was a trend setter in the shipping industry and was famous among the common masses.

The most remarkable strength of USPS was its advanced supply chain and vast network across the globe. UPS provides facilities like sending letters, pickup and delivery of a package from the sender to the receiver. USPS has increased its efficiency by adopting new technologies. It has built its own competitive environment. The company has its own style of satisfying the needs of the customers. The company has developed web products to increase the efficiency and help the customers to track their shipment within no time. UPS proved its services to be reliable and soon it became popular among all the sectors of the society from common people to large corporations. Though USPS was a great success, but there were some weaknesses as the delivery system of the company was entirely dependent upon delivery boys. The increase in competition forced them to modify their rates for more efficiency.

USPS used technology to meet customer demands and to increase its efficiency. The launch of tools like TotalTrack and Inventory Express enabled the customers to track their packages and ship their packages whenever required. UPS was shifting from technology to customer needs, but the customer needs were somehow still dependent on technology. According to Foster, this shift represented that people were becoming more aware of current technological advancement and their needs were increasing in a positive manner. Also, the use of technology was necessary to compete with the rest of the companies.

The criteria used by most of the people for the selection of a shipping company is based on its shipping rates. There is no question United States Postal Service is the least expensive for most smaller shipments, however, as a person who ships 10-15 parcels/packages a week, I saw significant increase in number of issues with the USPS ranging from overlooked input scans for tracking, packages routed to wrong address, damaged packaging and shipments due to rough handling by the staff to packages returned for no reason. A label is attached stating a parcel is being returned, but there was no explanation why. Additionally, I saw increasing numbers of postal desk clerks with serious grudge for their jobs. I have always been understanding of those who have any type of customer or public service job, but the growing number of such incidents forced me to switch to USPS. USPS is, no doubt, consistent when it comes to satisfying their customers. I always know the status of my shipment or get helpful online help when I need it with USPS. The customer service of USPS is remarkable. The smiling faces always help whenever there is a problem. USPS is maintaining its services in order to meet the ever-increasing requirements of its customers.
