SKILL ASSIGNMENT - CELTA
The aim of this assignment is for trainees to show an understanding of how to help students develop their receptive and productive skills, by adapting the course-book material attached.
PREPARATION-
Look at the material attached, which is taken from an Upper Intermediate course-book.
Do some background reading on skills development; read relevant sections of "The Practice of English Language Teaching" by Jeremy Harmer and/or teaming Teaching" by Jim Scrivener, and read your notes on how to teach receptive skills.
WORKSHEET-
As the material does not help students to develop receptive or productive skills effectively, you need to make a worksheet with more appropriate tasks.
- one lead in and/or prediction task
- two while reading tasks that develop two different sub-skills -you must include the answers to the questions
- "'one pre-teach vocab matching task"
- one post- reading task that develops a productive skill
ASSIGNMENT-
The essay part of the assignment justifies the design of your worksheet. You will need to make reference to background reading and use the headings below to structure it.

Say why you have designed this task and how it prepares the students for the following activities.
1st reading task - Say which receptive sub-skill (reading for gist / reading for specific information / reading for detail) the task develops. Provide a rationale for the task design making reference to background reading to show an understanding of methodology.
2nd reading task - Say which receptive sub-skill (reading for gist / reading for specific information / reading for detail) the task develops. Provide a rationale for the task design, making reference to background reading to show an understanding of methodology.
