Oral Presentation - Group task

Each group is to provide a group report and deliver a presentation to the class (maximum time of 15 mins) on the given student/work transition topic during the tutorial time in week 10. For large tutorial classes it may be necessary to use some of week 11 also, but all groups are to submit their work in week 10 (as per the Course Description). The schedule for the presentation is to be negotiated with the tutor by week 8.

Topic

The group is to select an advertisement for an IT professional position that has been lodged since 1 March, 2014 in any medium. A single, unique subtask for each member of the group is to be assigned by the group from the following four subtasks:

1. Write a letter of application based on the stated requirements of the advertised job and present evidence of your ability to meet those requirements. Initially you can work independently of the rest of your group, but before your final submission to the group report is made you should allow the work of the rest of the group to influence your contribution.

2. List each required skill included in the advertisement whether the skill is explicitly mentioned or implied. For example 'knowledge of the Java programming language' will include the skill of writing a program in the Java language. Order the list according to how important you think it will be to the employer. Justify the order you have chosen. Suggest any skills that the employer might assume the applicant should have, yet have not been included in the advertisement.

3. The Australian Computing Society has recently become a training partner of the SFIA Foundation (Skills Framework for the Information Age). Write a short paragraph describing SFIA. Explain briefly each of the seven SFIA levels of skills. Identify the immediate skill levels that are likely to be required by the successful applicant for the job advertisement chosen. Give examples from the advertisement. What levels of skills have been demonstrated by members of the team in the planning of this assessment task? Give specific examples.

4. What skills have been gained from your program (degree) so far? State the courses contributing most for each skill. This should include any skills not related to the selected job advertisement as well as those that are. Identify any skills indicated in the advertisement that have not yet been covered in your degree.
