Surface features of an extrasolar earth-like planet

Dan Goldin wanted to see an image of an extra-solar planet comparable to the crude images returned to us by our first meteoroligical satellites. Suppose you want to resolve 100 km feautures on an earth-like planet located at a distance of 30 pc at both wavelength 0.5 micrometer and 10 micrometer. How large a telescope do you need? And why should such a telescope be built in space? Given how telescope size scales with wavelength, what wavelength would you pick for imaging the surface features of an extrasolar earth-like planet?
