Executive Summary

Target is a well-known store and is always looking to retain and acquire new talent. Many companies have mentoring programs and it will be a perfect opportunity for Target to adopt one as well. Through the mentoring program, it will help attract new talent, retain current talent, bridge the generation gap within the company, and break down some barriers. The mentoring program will also encourage trust and communication amongst employees. It will also help transfer valuable knowledge within the company. Target need this program because it gives real world knowledge and guidance to current employees, those looking to become a part of the organization and new hires so there is a benefit for all including the company. The mentoring program will enhance learning opportunities for those looking to gain new skills, enhance current skills, and it could potentially bring out hidden talent.

The program may have some personal gratification for people engaging others and sharing and helping others. Also it will help people learn more about the company. It will help develop career and business goals. It will also identify the strong points and challenges of some of the current and new employees. The mentorship program will allow people to network and provide initial training to those onboarding.

The mentoring program at Target will be a formal program. Many organizations have a mentoring program and it is about time the Target adopt one because there are many benefits. The program will be structured with certain goals in mind that will in the end benefit the people and the organization. Target should establish a mentoring strategy and a selection process. There need to be some short-term goals and some long-term goals established. There has to be a plan in place to measure the outcome. It Target adopts the program they will want to be able to see that their money is well spent.

The program is open to all those who qualify. The qualifications will be outlined. There is a strategic pairing process to match up mentor with mentee to ensure goals are met for the company and the mentee. The mentoring engagement will last six months. After that if the person is an actual employee they can still reach out to the mentor for advice or direction. The program will provide training and support mentee and mentor. It will also let the company know what area to expect different results. The program is formal and structured so the company can see plan for the benefits every step of the way.
