Scenario:

You are employed in a social work position in a community agency based in Kingaroy in the South Burnett region of Queensland. You have been given the task of preparing background information for a submission for funding for a new service that is to be based in Kingaroy and provide services to the South Burnett region. Your agency is preparing the submission in partnership with a local Aboriginal Australian and Torres Strait Islander agency, at their request. The proposed service will work with Aboriginal Australian and Torres Strait Islander families. It is intended for the service to be holistic and address social and emotional well-being.

Your organisation has provided you with the following template of questions that must be addressed for the submission. Your responses must be supported by quality academic sources.
Template (all questions must be responded to):

1. Please provide a rationale (based on a critical appraisal of the literature) for the proposed service's aim of being holistic and addressing social-emotional well-being.

2. What groups should be consulted in the design of this service? Research who the key stakeholder agencies are likely to be (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous) in the South Burnett region and briefly explain the process you used to identify them.

3. What practice approaches, theories, and models should inform service delivery and why?

4. What strategies will the service and practitioners employ to specifically ensure culturally responsive and safe service delivery?

5. What personal and professional qualities should the agency be looking for in staff, and why?

Part B (10%):

Critically reflect on societal and organisational barriers to culturally safe and responsive practice, and how your own socio-cultural position may impact on your capacity for culturally safe practice using the template below.

Template (address all areas):

1. What societal level barriers do you see to the service being able to enact its' goals?
2. What organisational barriers might exist to enacting culturally safe and responsive practice?
3. As a practitioner in this agency, how might your own socio-cultural position and perspectives impact on your own capacity for culturally safe practice?
