Steps in ANOVA

The three steps which constitute the analysis of variance are as follows:

  1. To determine an estimate of the population variance from the variance that exists among the sample means.

  2. To determine an estimate of the population variance from the variance that exists within the samples.

  3. Accept the null hypothesis if the above two estimates are equal or else reject the null hypothesis. If the estimates are equal to or approximately nearer, we get the ratio of the two estimates as either exactly or nearer to 1. This ratio is referred to as F ratio.
