August 15, 2018

I.Introduction

A. Statistics from The U.S. Department of Education reveal that in the school year 2011-2012, Out of 49 million students enrolled in public school, 3.5 million students were suspended in-school, 3.45 million were suspended out of school while, 130, 000 students were expelled. National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reveal that Last year, 3,328,750 Students were suspended while 102,080 were expelled.

B. Some students are expelled because of several minor offences while others for serious crimes. Irrespective of the offence that led to expulsion, most students often have a choice to enroll in alternative schools or homeschool.

Combining students that had severe criminal issues with those that had several minor mistakes is not healthy in terms of behavior development. Students who opt for homeschooling may not have enough resources as they would have had in school. Expulsion or multiple suspensions also negatively affect students GPA.Apparently, suspending students or expelling students from school does more harm than good.
