A simply supported beam carries concentrated loads of 26 kN, 16 kN and 12 kN at positions as indidated in FIGURE 1. It also carries a uniformly distriubted load (u.d.l.) of 4 kN m-1along its entire length.

(i) Determine the upward reaction at each support (i.e.R1andR2).

(ii) Sketch a shear force diagram for the beam.

(iii) Calculate the bending moments at 1 m intervals along the beam.

(iv) Sketch a bending moment diagram for the beam.

(v) State the position and magnitude of the maximum bending moment on the beam.
