Question: Small group discussions in this course allow you to develop deeper connections with a smaller segment of the class. These sma ll group discussions are an opportunity for you to create a sense of community within the course. They are also a great opportunity to get to know your peers and make professional connections. Your active participation in these small group discussion forums is essential to your overall success this term. Discussions will utilize video within the YouSeeU tools, which gives you practical experience interacting in a face-to-face manner with the benefit of an asynchronous environment.

Discussion questions are designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your openness to new ideas and to practice how to respond when you do not agree. It is important for counselors to develop this nonjudgmental disposition and to build a culture that appreciates dif ferences.

Prompt: After readings this week's assigned readings, pick one of the following topics and research the topic using the Shapiro Library. Consider the following question: As a counselor in training, how you would assist an individual during their elderhood? Use a lifespan theory to hel p explain your response.

Post one scholarly resource with your initial post. Use the Shapiro Library research guide to assist in your research.

• End-of-Life Planning

• Psychosocial Crisis

• Emotional Impact of Aging

While responding to your peers, provide additional suggestions on how to assist someone within their elderhood stage of life.

Requirements for Small Group Discussion Board Assignments

Students are required to post one initial video and to follow up with at least two written responses for each discussion.

For your initial video (1), you must do the following:

• Compose a substantive video response.

• Complete the initial video by Thursday at 11:59 p.m. of your local time zone.

• Take into consideration material such as course content and other discussion forums from the current week and previous weeks, when appropriate.

• Reference scholarly or peer-reviewed sources to support your discussion points, as appropriate (using proper citation methods for your discipline, referencing authors as you create your video. For example, Smith found that X influenced Y.).

For your written responses (2), you must do the following:

• Reply to at least two different classmates outside of your own initial video.

• Reply to the instructor and/or classmates who respond to your initial video.

• Complete the two response posts by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. of your local time zone.

• Demonstrate more depth and thought than simply stating "I agree" or "You are wrong." Guidance is provided for you in each discussion prompt.
