Medical school of UT studied 32 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). One of the characteristics measured for each patient in the study was body mass index (BMI). BMI for the 24 men in the study was 21.6± 2.5 (mean ± st.dev.) kg/m2 . BMI for the 8 women in the study was 20.1 ± 2.1 kg/m2

Is there a statistically significant difference in BMI between male and female patients with COPD? Assume that BMI is normally distributed and use the 5% level of significance. Assume that the variances are the same.
