PowerPoint project assignment represents your synthesis and research of a large scale concept in genetics applied to a specific topic or situation. Projects represent the student's original work and thought with carefully cited research. Specific, detailed instructions and the list of potential topics and activities
Project Topic
Choose one topic from the list below that you would like to know more about. These topics allow you to explore a pattern of genetic inheritance that has been covered in the course. Conduct research via the APUS online library and the internet to find credible information on your chosen topic. Find at least five reference sources that will be used in your project. Here is a list of topics to choose from (you can propose your own topic but you must email and gain approval of the topic from the instructor):
• Human Genome Project
• Genetics of Progerias (premature aging diseases)
• Interpretation of BRCA1 & BRCA2 Markers for Breast and Ovarian Cancer
• Genetics of Antibiotic/Antimicrobial Resistance
• Genetics of Sickle Cell Anemia: Effect of Malaria Parasite (Plasmodium falciparum) and the Mosquito Vector (Anopheles gambiae)
• Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) Analysis
Project Outline
Your project should contain a minimum of the following components and contain speaker's notes for each slide. The slides should contain bulleted lists of the main idea with written out notes in the speaker's notes area which contains all the details as if you were giving the presentation. Information and images/ figures should be properly cited.
Title Slide- contains the title of your project, your name, the course name and term
Overview Slide- contains a bulleted list of the topics you will cover in the project
Introduction Slide(s) - one or more slides introducing the topic
Main Slides- details about the genetic topic with one or more specific examples
Summary Slide(s) - contains your analysis of why this topic is important, how the information can be used, and potentially a suggestion of
Conclusion- what is the single most important point of the presentation
Literature Cited- contains APA citation of all reference sources used in the presentation
Images Credit- contains a list of credits for images that were used in the presentation
