The exploration of a thematic, historic, social, economic or gender found in the readings this semester, would be the examination of a variety of narrative structures and elements found in the readings, settings (time and place), characters, (major or minor) foreshadowing, plots, themes, symbolism, imagery, point-of-view, language or tone.

• An Argumentative Statement: Makes a claim about a topic and justifies this claim with specific evidence. The claim could be an opinion, an evaluation, a cause-and-effect statement, or an interpretation. The goal of the argumentative statement is to convince the audience that the claim is true based on the evidence provided.

• Remember that creating an outline prior to writing your statement will make organizing your thoughts a lot easier and will be beneficial to your writing process.
