Sociology:
Students are required to design, conduct, tape-record and transcribe an interview of at least half an hour in length with a relative or family friend aged over 40. The interview should focus on the relationship between gender and housework and explore continuities and changes she or he has observed in regard to this relationship over the course of her/his life. Students must obtain a signed interview consent form from their interviewee prior to conducting the interview (example of an interview consent form below). It is strongly recommended that you watch the following clip on Oral History Research Method before designing and conducting the interview:

Students are then required to produce a report which must include the following:
i) Your interview schedule and an explanation of why you thought the questions you included would be sociologically interesting. This discussion should reference relevant sociological articles and books (Max 1000 words)
ii) Signed interview consent form
iii) Transcript of the interview (a half hour long interview will generate at least 6-10 pages of transcript)
iv) Discussion of the interview in relation to the relevant research methods literature (Max 1000 words)
International students may conduct the interview by skype if necessary, and in these cases, e-mail signatures on consent forms will be acceptable.
