In 125 of my own words, when I reflect on validity in quantitative research, I see how it helps make findings trustworthy and useful. Construct validity stands out to me because it reminds me that our tools must truly measure what we say they do. In substance abuse research, this is important so we do not misunderstand behaviors or treatment outcomes (Campbell & Fiske, 1959). Internal validity also feels essential because it helps show that change happens because of the treatment, not outside factors. Without this, it is hard to know what really works (Cook & Campbell, 1979). External validity matters to me because research should help real people in different settings, not just one group.
