Read the assignment sheet which asks you to discuss 3 links

Discuss LINKS within the TGAM blog post "APA Using NCD not Dementia," posted March 10, 2017.

Write a paper of 5 to 6 paragraphs that discusses an aspect of neurocognitive disorders that might affect older adults, demonstrating strong critical reading, thinking, and writing skills.

The exams test quantitative thinking on aging. The Link(s) paper evaluates your qualitative thinking on aging.

Somewhere in your paper, explain why you chose the 3 links you read, describe who is sponsoring the information you read, and analyze how the information relates to the textbook material. Somewhere in your paper, apply what you read to helping older adults in your future career in health care. Or if your career of choice doesn't loan itself to working directly with older adults, you can explain how this new knowledge might change your attitudes and interactions with older adults in your extended family.

You can develop your own outline. That's absolutely fine. But some students prefer to have more of a scaffolding to their writing, so here are two sample outlines.

Outline Option 1:

P1: Introduce by doing at least two of the following (but not all unless you are super skilled and can compress this into one manageable paragraph): explain the relevance of the aging issue you selected; announce the topic of the blog post you read; refer to the subject(s) of the textbook chapters (ever so briefly) that relate to the blog post; provide an overview of the links you chose (but super briefly since there are 3 links); focus even further to a very specific issue you see as the most relevant for discussion; briefly announce your strategy for discussing the issue.

P1. Introduce* your paper by announcing your topic and refer to the documents you will discuss (even if just briefly). However, be sure that your introduction narrows the topicto show the ability to think for yourself and to focus. Give a very brief overview of the documents you selected (textbook chapter/s, links) and the specific focus you are taking in your paper that makes your L2 paper unique from 29 others students in this class.

[In the body paragraphs, write at least one sentence about the organization that is hosting the link you are reading. Most webpages have an "About" or "About Us" tab. Read that so that you can show that you learned about WHO is providing the information instead of just WHAT the link says.]

P2: Discuss the first link, why you chose it, who sponsors it, and how it connects with a key passage in your textbook.

P3: Discuss the second link, why you chose it, who sponsors it, and how it connects with a key passage in your textbook.

P4: Discuss the third link, why you chose it, who sponsors it, and how it connects with a key passage in your textbook.

P5: Conclude by doing at least two of the following concluding tasks (but not all unless you are super skilled and can compress all of these tasks into one manageable paragraph): summarize your own efforts, share an insight that comes from a synthesis of the links/textbook passages, apply what you learned to your vocation or extended family, call for a very specific change and unique to your focus/discussion so that your conclusion isn't general, vague or cliché.)

NOTE: Students who revise their introductions after writing the whole paper usually have stronger introductions. The act of writing the paper itself results in critical thinking. It's hard to introduce the body of your paper when the act of writing itself leads to new insights.

Outline Option 2:
It's more complex to do so, but you can write a paper that introduces the sources first and then synthesizes the textbook chapters and links as you go.

P1 Introduce the task of consulting various sources to think more critically about cognitive changes as people age and how experts are defining and diagnosing these changes. Briefly explain how you see 2 or 3 parts to the issue you selected as a subset of the general topic.

P2 Back up and introduce all of your documents (blog post, relevant textbook chapters, selected links). Be sure to explain why you selected the links, who sponsors the link by hosting the content, and why you respect the sources.

P3. Discuss the first issue related to your particular argument about aging and NCD and draw from more than one textbook chapter and/or more than one link.

P4. Discuss the second issue related to your particular argument about aging and NCD and draw from more than one textbook chapter and/or more than one link.

P5. [Third Issue or if you only have 2 parts move to conclude at 5 paragraphs. If you just do 2, they should be explained very substantially.]
