Question 1: Case Scenarios

Scenario A

According to how things went, it would be right to say that the content he understood was relevant since it was of no good use to anyone. However, there are certain things that he would have done to make things work. First is the collaborative approach. He would have considered the group members as his colleagues an action that they would have reciprocated. In return, the process of learning would be easy, and he would have no difficulty when giving instructions. The next approach would be the practical approach. If he understood the content, it would be easier to apply what he learned, as what he experienced were classroom challenges

Scenario B

The first approach would have been the goal-oriented approach. Instead of rushing into the contents, she would have first explained the goal of that training session. By doing so, the manager already creates an awareness and the need to take that training. Additionally, the participants will act towards that goal throughout the session. The second thing would be to introduce past life experience and knowledge concerning the training session. Apparently, the participants will engage in reflective learning where they will feel like they already know the topic instead of talking out.

Scenario C

To get the participants participate, he would have initially motivated them before anything else. Probably, he would have promised them gifts or offered incentives if they completed a particular task related to the activity. Alternatively, he would have offered them responsibilities concerning the activity making them self-directed. They would be allowed to suggest strategies they seem appropriate or identify resources that seem fit. Another way would be to explain the relevance of that session. By doing so, the participants get to know why they are there and it would be easy to make them participate.

Professor Said:

You made generally reasonable points, but could strengthen your analysis by applying some of the relevant information from the readings. For example, Scenario B included the point that "a few participants began talking out of turn." Some different participant types are discussed in the section 8.3 readings, though this list is not exhaustive. Would you say that the participants in this scenario can be described as "Talkative Trainees" as described in the readings? What is the most practical suggestion made in the readings for dealing with this? I look forward to reading your response posts.
