Q. Portable Gas Cylinders - Handling of Hazardous?

Portable Gas Cylinders Portable gas cylinders are vulnerable to fire exposure when located in process areas. Depending on local regulations, gas cylinders are not always provided with overpressure protection.

• High-risk cylinder installations (multi-cylinder, volatile, flammable or toxic liquids (e.g. chlorine, ammonia)) should be located at the edge of the process area, with good access for firewater cooling.

Bulk storage of such cylinders should be minimized, and should be located in a remote offsite area.

• Low-risk cylinder installations (single cylinder, flammable or inert gas (e.g. hydrogen, nitrogen)) should be located at the edge of a fire risk area.
