Problem

Pak-Green is a company specializing in the design and manufacture of sustainable packing materials. A successful product is the recyclable pallets used as alternatives to the traditional wooden pallets. The design engineers designed the product to be light weight which leads to savings in freight costs for their customers. As the pallets are made from plywood and assembled without the use of nails, they can easily be recycled into chipboard, fibreboards or sent for energy recovery. The engineers are an important group of employees as they need to integrate disciplines in sustainable materials, manufacturing processes and customer needs into their design. The company HR Director is reviewing the company's job description and person specifications for the design engineer position and the assembly technician position due to the relatively high employee turnover of these positions.

• Define job analysis. Propose the appropriate technique(s) used to conduct the job analysis for the design engineer and the assembly technician.

• Describe how the HR Director should use the available information to determine the impact of the job analysis. Examine two characteristics of the selection tools that will affect whether accurate assessments will be obtained with illustration of their interdependency.
