Project team in a consumer products organization

Discuss the team identified in the Case Study relative to the various challenges it may be facing in addition to those stated in the Case Study

Case Study:

You are the leader (you are all the collective leader) of a 10-person, multi-country project team in a consumer products organization. Some members of the team are in management positions, and some are not. Your team advises the Company on its marketing efforts around the world. You have access to video-conferencing equipment, but the challenges of time differences among the locations makes using that equipment difficult. Consequently, most of your communication is through e-mail or conference calls. You have found that rarely is everyone available for a conference call at the same time.

While you have been meeting and communicating for 3 months, you have a goal to make recommendations and a target date of one month from today (the date of your term paper). The team has worked well in exchanging information on customer feedback and buying trends in each location, and also in communicating the minutes after the conference calls.

There is a growing conflict between the New York, California and Hong Kong team members. They each have very strong personalities and opinions, and they appear to be more and more critical and disrespectful of each other in their communications. Their behaviors are now impacting the progress of the team. The rest of the team is looking to you as the leader to deal with this issue and get the team back on track, toward meeting the goal of recommendations to senior management on new global marketing ideas for 2011 and 2012.
