Project - housing value prediction for the midterm project

Midterm Project - Housing Value Prediction

For the midterm project, each one of you will be tasked with developing a model to predict the value of homes for sale. The goal of this project is to not only develop a useful model, but to show aspects of what you've learned from each lesson so far. This is an individual project.

The final deliverables for this project are the R code used to do the project, and a paper that goes in depth as to your goal, pre-analysis (personal hypotheses, introductory plots), model development, and conclusions. The paper should be more formal than your homework (i.e. write in essay style, as if you were publishing a scientific report, rather than answering questions one-by-one or in bullets). Include screenshots and plots where you feel necessary. Make sure to go beyond just providing output, but explain what it means.

Also something to note for building your model: I want to see how it reacts to new data. Put aside the last 100 rows of your data (rows 483 to 583) as a test set that you will make predictions with. Report back on how well the model did at predicting these variables.

Each student will be placed in one of three pools, A, B, or C. Each pool will have a slightly different group of predictor variables you will use to build the model. Note that these pools are just to determine what variables you will receive; this is an individual project.

This project should mesh a bit of everything we've learned. I do want to see a well-thought out model, but I'm not grading everyone on who has the best results. This project is mainly a way for you to show your understanding of the course material.
