Assignment Task:
Tocqueville did come to the United States to study prison reform. However, while here, he watched democracy in action and noticed what was going on in the local, state and federal levels are all different. He exclaimed that America was able to separate out the federal government from the state and local government and then create laws that would guide each citizen in each of their states when it come to the State level. WE all know that the Constitution sets down the laws that should be followed by all on the national level. He also expressed concern that those in the majority would drown out those in the minority if laws were not in place to make sure their rights were heard as well. He was quite a fascinating man.
So, thinking about the Constitution and your state, looking at the 10 Amendment, can you pick one law from your state that the US Constitution nor the other amendments cover. So, in other words, give me a law that is different in your state.
Some of these states have outrageous laws. For example, here in PA there is a law which states the following: PA Code 3800.257 A child's bedroom may not be more that 200 feet from a bathtub or shower and a toilet.
