Problem about perfect social relations or hierarchies

Problem: Whenever the word "dynasty" is depicted in myths and movies, people associate images of perfect social relations or hierarchies. It is typical to have ideal thoughts of where everyone knows his/her place in the society, where the good ones dethrone kings who are incapable of running their kingdom. The paradigmatic concept of 'dynasty' in the past, as mentioned above has become obsolete. The kind of dynasty is far and different from the dynasties present today, especially in our country. Tracing back our Philippine history, political dynasty started during the pre-colonial era. As civilizations flourished, the need of a leader became imperative thus, chieftains were put in power. They were classified as Lakan, Gat, Rajahs, Sultans, and Datus. The most common was Datu wherein one governs 30-100 families or barangays. They also practiced hierarchies in terms of social status and organization in the society. During that time, it has been a tradition that only the chieftain's son or a family member can replace the reigning Datu (Ong, 2014). The continuing phenomenon of political dynasties today reflects the encompassing influence of traditional politics. It has become customary for citizens to base their decisions on personality-based campaigns backed by familial or dynastic support. While there are also ideologies that are in place, dynasties seem to perpetuate and enjoy various advantages in traditional kinship networks, political machineries, wealth, property, access to government sources, weak political party system, weak electoral system, culture of powerlessness among the people, and warlordism (Cabigao, 2013).
