Primary and secondary data for market research

Problem: What is the difference between primary and secondary data, when we are discussing market research?

Motivation is what causes the consumer to initiate certain behavior. When a person is motivated, he or she is energized towards a goal.

Now, a need reflects the lack of something that would benefit a person, a gap between the consumer's actual state and his/her perceived desired state.

Needs have been classified as physiological and social or psychological needs, and there are certain products that are influenced by both. An example of this can be food.

Humans need food to live (a physiological need), but the social environment creates the need to eat at a particular restaurant to show that we either belong to a certain group (Starbucks coffee), or that we have reached a certain socio-economic status that can show how successful we have become (an expensive and elegant restaurant).

Can you present some examples of other products affected by both type of needs?
