Assessment: Class participation and Independent learning

This assessment is divided into two separate parts. Together, these components constitute 10% of the final UEEC grade.

2. Independent Learning Task

Class participation refers to your engagement in classroom tasks and activities. This assessment involves demonstrating your ability to work proactively and collaboratively during class time in addition to working autonomously outside of class.

1. Class participation

UEEC students are expected to:

1. be punctual

2. contribute regularly during class discussions

3. work cooperatively with fellow students

4. participate pro-actively In learning activities

5. speak in English In the classroom and on the UNSWIL campus

6. refrain from using mobile devices for non-academic purposes during class time.

During group discussion assessments you are asked to evaluate the performance of your peers in the Group Discussion task and offer constructive feedback.

During the presentation assessments you are asked to contribute regularly and constructively during Seminar Presentation discussions.

2. Independent learning task

Write an annotated bibliography Including three academic sources (e.g. a journal article).

The literature chosen for your annotated bibliography should be related to your future field of study and the topic of your UEEC seminar presentation.

Beyond the instructions and exemplars provided in your SCB, you should refer to the UNSW learning centre website for guidelines about:

1. using the Harvard referencing system

2. writing an annotated bibliography.

Guidelines

  • Prepare a list of three academic sources relevant to your future field of study and linked to your research project (i.e. UEEC seminar presentation).
  • Write a brief paragraph (approximately 100 words) that summarises the content of each text, explains the scope of the research, and provides a brief evaluative comment (e.g. assessing its relevance, currency, reliability etc). Note that the paragraph must be written in your own words.
  • Use the Harvard referencing system to provide a bibliographical reference for each of your academic sources
  • Submit the first page of each source (e.g. the abstract or introductory paragraph).
