Participating in deaf culture from birth

Problem:

Respond to the following the most humanely way possible in 120 words: Iva's response in the video indicates that she was both surprised and emotional upon learning that her baby was hearing. Since both she and her husband are Deaf, it was probably a natural assumption that her baby would be Deaf so that they could share the same language and similar social experiences. Culturally, deaf parents prefer to have Deaf children within their family to enable early and direct communication through ASL and an identity that is a shared Deaf community. When she discovers her baby is hearing, she has to adjust to the surprise and imagine what her baby is hearing after, probably expecting to raise a hearing baby who would participate in Deaf culture from birth (Smith, Lentz, and Mikos 2008). In the hypothetical situation I was hearing, but with a Deaf child, I would probably be surprised, just like Iva. Unlike Iva, I would probably be less surprised and more concerned with making sure my child has full access to communication, including learning to communicate in ASL myself, and that my child is not Deaf and isolated by ensuring that my entire extended family learns ASL. I would also probably join Deaf clubs and other Deaf community resources to provide context for my child's communication. Need Assignment Help?
