Overall we do see a tremendous amount of importance placed

This also brings into question the extent to which our own ethics might get compromised by job security! We will often confront the issue of job security, and whether that is enough incentive for a person to not speak their mind when they clearly see a violation of the law from their corporation! In times of economic insecurity, we would expect less whistleblowing behavior! That is, of course, unless the breaches of the company actually place the company's health in dire jeopardy!

Overall, we do see a tremendous amount of importance placed upon whistleblowers! A big example: In looking at the case of Enron, Tyco, and WorldCom, would we have been able to see the tremendous corruption within these corporations if it were not for key whistleblowers? Also, should the government exonerate whistleblowers from legal responsibility? This did happen in the case of Arthur Andersen, and one of their key accountants, David Duncan. Is this the right thing to do?
