Assignment Introduction

Presenting the results of a study in a meaningful, understandable, and defensible manner is a critical component of any research endeavor.

The results of an action research study might be presented to a Board of Trustees, Corporate management team, a board of education, or a group of colleagues.

These audiences may be responsible for implementing interventions from the study or adjusting practice through the knowledge gained from the study. Finally, as an action researcher you have provided yourself with the tools to take more control over your professional life.

Assignment Directions

Using the material you have developed in each of the unit's Discussion in this course, prepare a PowerPoint® presentation to summarize your study and your results.

You should not be merely writing a research report using PowerPoint® but creating a true presentation.

That means using bullet points and providing the essential information needed for someone to really understand what you did and what you found.

Using the PowerPoint® template complete the following:

Abstract

Introduction

Literature Review

Descriptive statistics for your results

Tests of hypotheses

Conclusions and Reflection on your study

Problem: Americas public school system isn't broke, its wrong

Hypothesis: The current state of Americas school system is working just as it was designed and that's wrong. We are teaching away creativity, individualism, critical thinking, common sense, and reason. The substitute for these skills are; basic obedience to a new leader/teacher year over year (little to no bonding), test memorization, conformity, fear of being less "educated" then a peer and college will make you smart.

Our public-school system was designed to create neat and orderly students who line up and march in single file lines to their next class. Their talking is kept to a minimum. Their lesson plans are one size fits all plans. The government, state and local, determine what a child's success will look like, typically a state test or assessment.

And most of all they are taught not to question their teacher/administrator. We are getting them ready for the real world where they will be expected to conform to the Monday through Friday 9-5 rat race, only once they've paid their 100k in college tuition.

Throughout this paper we will compare the differences in public education vs Montessori education and determine which education system works more efficiently for the students. We will also take a deeper look into why Americas public school system has gone with little to no change over the last 100 years.

Dependent variable: K-12 public education

Independent variable: Montessori education

Participants: Students and parents of both school systems

Data collection: Student graduation rates, comprehension, favorability towards school/education, additional forms/topics of education, test scores, family income, home life.

Fero, J. R. (1997). A COMPARISON OF ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS TAUGHT BY THE MONTESSORI METHOD AND BY TRADITIONAL METHODS OF INSTRUCTION IN THE ELEMENTARY GRADES[Scholarly project]. In Montana State University.

How does the article relate to your research question?

The topics are the same. However, the paper published by Montana State University is 20 years old. I will have to add additional references and research with current data.

What were the independent and dependent variables?

Independent: Montessori students and teaching habits

Dependent: Public education students and teaching habits

What was the intervention?

• Independent study in the same school system between Montessori and public education

• Collection and analysis of 40 years of surveys and research

What were the results?

Varied, of course. This article is full of data. To completely analyze and understand Ill have to breakdown each grade and really determine the results. E

arly review is showing Montessori students start doing significantly better as the grades increase. Standard public education students test similar to their Montessori peers early on.

I have developed an additional hypothesis as to why these results are so similar early on and gradually show more promise to the Montessori way of learning.
